2007 Larry Kemp Memorial Ride Larry's life was tragically ended on the morning of March 16, 2004 while riding his bike on the island of Mallorca in Spain. Larry was on a bike vacation with friends and was riding along single file in a small group, with Larry being the last one in line, when a car came around a blind corner on a narrow road traveling at approximately 60 mph and struck Larry from behind. Larry was the only one hit and was thrown from his bike and knocked unconscious instantly and died shortly thereafter from internal injuries. There were trained paramedics on the ride and an ambulance came shortly and tried to do everything possible to save his life, but his injuries were too severe. As we struggle with the grieving process, we hope that this page will help us remember what Larry meant to us and how he impacted and enriched our lives. As is unfortunately the case much too often, the positive effect a person can have is not fully realized until we can't tell them how much we appreciate it. Thank you Larry for having this effect on our lives. ByrneInvent Cycling Team will be partnering with the WSBA Junior Program to keep Larry's memory alive in the cycling community and to help junior riders and racers. Money that is donated in Larry's memory will go to the WSBA Junior Program 501(c)(3) account. We have designated three areas for our donations: (1) the junior race at the Larry Kemp Memorial Hill Climb; (2) a scholarship program for one or two less advantaged junior cyclists (which could include travel stipend, coaching or equipment, depending on need); and (3) skills and coaching clinics for juniors. We believe that these are things that Larry would be proud to support and fall within the mission of the WSBA Junior Program Fund. Seventy-five percent of the funds raised in Larry's memory will go to the areas designated above. The remaining 25% will go without restriction to the WSBA Junior Program to sponsor other junior-related activities and to help defray any additional administrative costs.
Checks should be made payable to the WSBA Junior/Larry Kemp Memorial fund and sent to:
